Keith, Operations Executive
In 1986, I came to reside in the Home at the age of 8 as my family was unable to care for my well-being. During my stay here, I learnt about Jesus Christ and God. The bible knowledge that was taught to me, gave meaning to my life and I was much comforted by His words. I learnt to accept the care-givers, their love and guardianship.
The Home provided me with shelter, basic needs, education and life-skill opportunities. In particular, Mdm Leong the Home’s matron was instrumental in teaching and imparting Christian values to all the children under her care. For me, she was my mentor whom I had the utmost respect.
I enjoyed the friendships made in the Home : living, playing, studying, eating and praying together. I feel that my stay here has built up my character, influence my attitude and lifestyle positively.
My past jobs included working as a car mechanic, general worker in the printing industry and delivery personnel with a courier service.
An opportunity came when I was offered a position in CSLMCH. It was a blessed chance to contribute and serve the Home, and to repay the love and kindness that was given to me.
We are very blessed to have the support of the volunteers, churches, donors, and social workers today as compared to the 1980s. The children now have big brothers and sisters as role models, opportunities to attend enrichment classes and a comprehensive support system to meet their needs.
Though the Home has undergone changes, it maintains the goals of Dr Chen Su Lan who set up the Home in 1968. I am sure the children here will embrace the values and lead positive lives after they leave the Home.
My heartfelt thanks to all the staff, social workers, house-parents for continuing the tradition of giving care, guidance and love to all the children in Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home.
