Welcome to Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home

Volunteers

We rely on volunteers at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home to help us to transform the boys and girls into healthy, happy and successful individuals. Volunteers serve as role models for children and help us to conduct important activities and programmes. We are currently looking for caring, patient and dedicated volunteers to support us in the following tasks and activities:

Education

We need volunteers to help the boys & girls with their homework when they return from school in the afternoons and evenings. Education is especially important because many of the children are behind or struggling at school. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us with the following task:

Tuition (Monday & Tuesday 8pm - 9pm): To guide & supervise the children and youths with their daily school work.

Spiritual

At Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home, God is central and every week the children attend chapel and care groups. We are looking for Christian volunteers to help us as:

Care Group leaders (Monday or Tuesday 6pm - 7.30pm): To lead care groups (or one-to-one) by providing pastoral care, support and imparting biblical values.

Worship Musicians (Tuesday or Wednesday 6pm - 7pm): To support our worship team. We especially need volunteers to teach the children to play praise & worship songs (on keyboard and guitar) and to create and manage a choir.

Operations

We also need volunteer support in the Home's daily logistical operations either on a regular weekly basis or when needed and available. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist us in the following tasks:

Drivers: To drive our children to school or pick up supplies.

Bicycle Maintenance: To fix and maintain our bicycles.

Gardening: To help maintain our garden and grounds.

Occupational Therapy: One of our residents is in a wheel chair and needs occupational therapy.

Befriending

This form of volunteering is more intensive and requires a weekly commitment for at least 2 years. Befrienders should preferably be at least 21 years old and married with a family of their own.

Befrienders (In-care): Befrienders are assigned to befriend and mentor specific children - usually boys and girls who need extra attention.  Once a rapport is established, befrienders can bring the child out for meals, church and family outings. It is hoped that eventually the befriender will be like a God parent and the relationship will last a life time.

Family Coaches (after-care): Befrienders who have the relevant skills & experience can become a 'Family Coach' by supporting and guiding a child and his or her family in order to help bring about family reunification and the child's discharge.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and are required to serve for a minimum of 6 months on a regular basis.

All volunteers are screened by the Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF) and briefed on the Home's code of conduct and their area of deployment before commencing services. Volunteers also have to attend a mass orientation during their service to understand the culture and operations of the Home.

Long term volunteers will be invited to attend training programmes organised by the Home. These training programmes will be conducted by the Home’s Staff or by external speakers/educators. The objective is to equip the volunteer with skills and knowledge to enable them to understand, manage and relate to the children.

If you would like to volunteer at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home, please fill in the Volunteer Application Form (see download below) and send it to info@cslmch.org.sg Our volunteer coordinator will then contact you for an interview if we find you suitable.
