"I was at Chen Su Lan home when I was 6. I stayed in the Home for about 7 years. As and when I am free now, I help out in the Home as a volunteer tutor, teaching the lower primary children.
My stay at the Home has made me a stronger person. How so? I received help from one of the former social worker in the Home. I would like to thank her (Jie jie Jean) for all the time and effort she placed on helping me. After I left the Home, I had to work part-time to support my educational needs and pocket money. I nearly gave up my studies in Secondary Two and went out to work because of financial difficulties. However, it was Jie Jie Jean that gave me moral support and encouragement that enabled me to continue to study and learn to be independent. She is one mentor that I would never forget.
It was also in the Home that I got to know about God and Jesus as my friend. Furthermore, when I was in the Home during my younger days, I initially felt lost and afraid to mix around with others. However, after some time, I got to know a lot of wonderful friends during my stay in the Home like Charis, Wee Kiat, Lincoln, Lesley and many more. Till this day, some of us still keep in contact with one another.
I can see that most of the children here today enjoy their stay here. I also had a wonderful time with them. In fact, I wish that the children here would take their experience at the Home as a positive one for them and also learn to appreciate God and the people around them. I hope that I can impart some of my experience to the children and be a mentor to them. Thank you for reading my testimony."
