Volunteer Tutor, Ow Yang Ngan Leng (Building Bridges through Language)

Since December 2023, Ow Yang Ngan Leng has been a blessing at our Home. She dedicates three days a week to teaching Mandarin and inspiring and guiding the children with her experience.

"I'm thrilled to see the children’s progress," Ngan Leng shared. "I've noticed a remarkable shift in one child who was initially hesitant about learning Chinese but now approaches the language with enthusiasm. It's fulfilling to witness this change and to realise that my efforts are making a difference.

" Ngan Leng values the interactions she has with the children. "I enjoy working with them and seeing their improvement over time. It's a joy to teach and build their confidence in Mandarin," she explained. She appreciates the supportive environment at CSLMCH, noting, "The Education Department staff are friendly and positive, which makes the experience enjoyable. I also appreciate the flexibility they offer me in teaching.

" Addressing the challenges she faces, Ngan Leng says, "I see that progress is sometimes gradual. I focus on giving my best, guided by a greater purpose, and try to maintain reasonable expectations for the children.

" In addition to her teaching role, she also conducted a 10-week conversational Chinese course for CSLMCH's foreign staff, improving their ability to communicate with the children. Ngan Leng's unwavering dedication to CSLMCH is inspiring. Kudos to our staff for stepping up and taking on sessions to bridge communication gaps between themselves and the children. CSLMCH is thankful to have volunteers like Ngan Leng. A Thrilling Adventure for CSLMCH Camp.
